Platform Architecture
A PICMG 3.1R2 compliant hub provides 40GBASE-KR4 to the fabric interface of a PICMG
3.1R2 compliant blade.
The fabric interface switch is also extended outside the AXP1440-C07 shelf through
external interfaces on the front of the switch and additional external interfaces on the RTM.

IPMI Network
The Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) is based on a redundant radial
topology. Redundant IPMI networks are supported by the Shelf Management Module,
SAM1620-D, (also referred to as SAM) to manage the shelf resources.
The SAM1620-D is the center of the IPMI network and the hubs are the center of the base
interface network. The SAM1620-D connects to all slots in the shelf and monitors and
reports on the content of the AXP1440-C07. The SAM1620-D collects environmental data
from sensors within the shelf and can assist high availability software to determine when a
failover is necessary due to hardware removal or environmental changes, such as an over-
temp condition.
The SAM1620-Ds contain the Shelf Management Controller (ShMC) which polls all devices
resident to the shelf and collects the Field Replaceable Units (FRU) data records for all the
components. The SAMs also manage non-IPMI devices for the shelf and performs
environmental monitoring of the temperature and voltage. Using the PICMG 3.0 standard,
the SAMs are able to power off and reset slots for hot swap capability.
