Shelf Management Module
In abnormal operating conditions, when a blade thermal sensor is approaching or crossed
its upper noncritical threshold, the SAM1620-D automatically adjusts the fan speeds to a
point where all the blade thermal sensors are just below their upper noncritical threshold
(minus a user configurable offset).
The dynamic minimum fan level is not used.
Each fan tray has six fan units and each fan unit has an inlet and outlet fan. Fan speeds for
all level settings are summarized in the next table.

Redundancy Control
The ShMM-1500R supports redundant operation using a redundant ShMM-1500R. In a
configuration having ShMM-1500Rs, one acts as an active shelf manager and the other as
a standby. Both ShMM-1500Rs monitor each other, and either module can trigger a
switchover if necessary.
The ShMM-1500R provides a number of hardware redundancy signals on the CN1
connector. The HRI is implemented using the FPGA device. The default operation of the
SAM1620-D is to switchover automatically. The AXP1440-C07 chassis is specially
designed to operate in harsher shock environments with a hot-swap switch of the ShMM-
1500R having potential to trigger, causing the shelf manager switchover without a true
failure in the active shelf manager.
