9. Break the tag out or lockout seals on the branch circuit or power distribution unit.
10. Apply power by closing the branch circuit or power distribution unit.
The OOS (Out of Service) indicator LED glows solid red and the other LEDs go
dark. The OOS will not go dark and the IS (In Service) indicator LED will not
illuminate until the external power circuit breakers are closed.
11. Verify that all FRU LEDs illuminate and the PEM's IS LED is green, and the OOS LED

Powering Up the System
With the installation cabled up, you are ready to apply power to the system.
Cover all open module slots and put all approved filler panels in place before turning
on power. This is necessary to properly cool the shelf and to avoid electrical shock
and other possible hazards. Slot covers and panels must remain in place during
system operation.
5.10.0.1 Procedure - Power Up the System
Follow these steps to power up the system:
1. Push the PEM circuit breakers to the ON position.
2. Verify that all FRU LEDs illuminate and the PEM's IS LED is green.
The system executes its normal startup routine and is then ready to use.

Accessing the System
You can access your system using the SAM1620-D shelf manager. The SAM1620-D direct
serial console connector (back of shelf) is an RJ-45 connector on the SAM1620-D face
plate. This connector is configured as Data Terminal Equipment (DTE). While the
SAM1620-D's direct serial console connector allows interaction with its boot messages, the
RS-232 interface on the Alarm Display Panel (ADP1440-D) starts functioning only after the
OS has been booted.
These standard cables are available from SMART EC. Refer to the AXP1440-D data sheet
for ordering information.
