Damage of Circuits
Electrostatic discharge and incorrect RTM installation and removal can damage
circuits or shorten their life.
Before touching the RTM or electronic components make sure that you are working
in an ESD-safe environment.
Rear Transition Modules connect directly with the connectors on the front blade and
do not make the connection through the backplane.
6.2.1

Procedure - RTM with Installed Front Switch Blade

Put on an ESD wrist strap.
Connect the strap to the shelf by attaching the front or rear ESD jack.
The following procedure describes the installation of the RTM-ATCA-F140-D. It assumes
that your system is powered and a front blade is installed.
1. Open the lower handle of the front switch blade to power down its payload.
The blue LED on the blade starts to flash. This indicates that the front
blade is informing the shelf manager about its desire to power down its
payload.
2. Wait until the blue LED on the front blade is ON, indicating the payload is powered
down.
3. Locate the rear slot the RTM is to be installed. It must be the same slot as that of the
front blade.
NOTE: The RTM's upper and lower handles have different designs due to the location of
the captive screw on the front panel of the RTM.
