Chapter 10: Terms you should know

This section defines the terms and acronyms used in this guide.

Terms

®
The Avaya Aura
AS 5300 Office Client uses some terms that may be new to you. Read through the
explanations to familiarize yourself with the following terms.

Address

When a procedure instructs you to enter an address, enter either a telephone number or a SIP
address. A SIP address is a unique identifier of subscribers on the IP network, and has the same
format as an e-mail address, for example, jdoe@lab1.org, but it is not an e-mail address. The
network can identify where you are and route your calls by tracking your SIP address when you log
on to any Avaya Aura
Client, or IP Deskphone.
To make it easier to place calls, the system allows you to store addresses (SIP addresses or
telephone numbers) in a personal address book. With SIP addresses, you can take advantage of
the advanced features of the Avaya Aura

Call logs

®
The Avaya Aura
AS 5300 Office Client keeps a record of all incoming and outgoing calls. It stores
these call log entries in the Avaya Aura
(for incoming calls) and Outgoing Calls folder (for outgoing calls).

Conference

You have the ability to create Ad Hoc and Meet Me conferences.
• Ad Hoc conferences are conferences that are created spontaneously by joining multiple calls
together into one conference call.
