After you add oil to the pump, the following situations can occur:
Tip:
The oil level drops slightly during the first month of operation.
The oil changes color (darkens) over time.
After running the pump for 12 to 48 hours, a few drops of oil can
sometimes appear around the lip of the filler plug, and eventually
run downward, dripping from the pump once it reaches operating
temperature.
When the pump begins to run at normal operating temperature,
spilled oil becomes slightly odorous.

Cleaning the source components

Clean the sample cone and cone gas nozzle when these conditions apply:
The sample cone and cone gas nozzle are visibly fouled.
LC and sample-related causes for decreased signal intensity have been
dismissed.
