Scanning Hardware Options

Scanning capability can be added to the DI900/DI950 Tower feeders as well
as the High Capacity Sheet Feeder (HCSF) when the customer purchases
one of the optional integrity packages for the inserter (see next page). The in-
tegrity package consists of scanning hardware and software that may be fac-
tory installed or retrofitted by the field as kits on the customer's machine.
The scan kits for the tower feeders scan ladder OMR and Barcode marks. The
tower scanning option includes scanners for both the front and back of the
sheet and one set of scanners supports all the tower feeders.
An additional kit for the HCSF installs a moving beam scanner so picket fence
format barcodes can be read. The HCSF scanning option can also scan marks
on either side of the sheet and one set of scanners covers both trays in the
feeder. Only one picket barcode scanner can be fitted in each HCSF, so cus-
tomer must specify fold type and whether barcode is on the front or back of
the document. The picket barcode option includes the barcode software.
This arrangement conceivably allows documents from any feeder to be
scanned (except got the DI950 High-Capacity Envelope Feeder).
Scanning kits include the scan heads, interface board, cables, instructions and
enhanced software. Available kits are listed in tables below.

Scanner Mounting

Scan heads can be mounted to view either side of the paper, however, once
mounted, scanner orientation cannot be changed; the scanner can view only
the selected side of the paper.
The user can adjust the horizontal position of the scan head without tools.
However, the user cannot reposition the scan head to view the other side of
the paper.
No more than two scan heads can be active for any given job definition. Scan
codes read by a single head on one side of the Tower Feeder must be in the
same horizontal location.
Scanning kits for the Tower Feeder are mountable between feeder assemblies
or between the frame of the base unit and the first feeder assembly. The scan-
ning kit for the High-Capacity Sheet Feeder mounts in the Tower below the
bottom feeder. High-Capacity Sheet feeders require BOC capability.
