What Are Barcode Recognition (BCR) Marks?

Barcode marks are a type of scan code that are made up of a series of bars
and spaces which represent a numerical or alphanumerical series. Like OMR
marks, the characters in a BCR mark are scanned by the system and repre-
sent integrity features to enhance the inserter's ability to create a successful
collation.
Unlike OMR marks, though, which are usually graphics, barcodes are gener-
ated from fonts. Using fonts allows a variety of barcode types and sizes to be
generated. However, it also means that you need to be careful to follow the
barcode guidelines to ensure the generated codes can be read successfully
on the DI900/DI950.
Barcode 3 of 9 (also known as "Code 39") and Interleaved 2 of 5 (also known
as "Code I 2 of 5") are the two types of barcodes that are read and supported
on the DI900/DI950. Code 3 of 9 is the barcode generated by Pitney Bowes
products such as PB FIRST™, while I 2 of 5 is used on competitor systems.
