Match Codes (MC) continued
Set-to-Set
The match mark may be used to implement or replicate a set-to-set match
code within a single feeder steam. "Set-to-Set" means that items fed and
scanned from the same feeder for the same piece must contain the same
match code to be acceptable. In "up" or "down", adjacent sets must have se-
quential codes. In "random", adjacent sets must have different codes.
Feeder-to-Feeder
The mark can be used to control a feeder-to-feeder matching to ensure that
personalized data in a separate feeder matches the data in the control feeder.
Feeder-to-feeder matching means that items fed and scanned from different
feeders for the same piece must contain the same match code to assure mail
piece integrity.
Many mail jobs require merging of two personalized print streams. An exam-
ple is a statement merged with a check. It is essential that all items intended
for a single addressee be assembled correctly and inserted into the correct
envelope. Feeder-to-feeder matching permits the inserting machine to obtain
a code based on reading successive marks from each sheet of the control
document (note additional collation integrity), and pass this code to another
feeder with an active matching scanner. This feeder feeds as designated
by the job definition, reads the match codes on each item and checks them
against the control code. In the event of a discrepancy, the machine stops and
displays an error. This implies that the matching feeder is set with scanning on
and includes a match code of the same length in the scan setup. All rules for
such a setup must be followed on this feeder.
Piece ID (PI)
This function is used as the piece ID in an open or closed loop control system
in conjunction with an external host computer. In this case, the match code
should be unique within the run.
