Scan Codes
and Levels
TIP: See Chapter 7,
Inserter Setup for set-
ting up the scan codes
for a job.
TIP: If you have cre-
ated a BOC-controlling
job (which can only
be fed from a system
with a HCSF), make
sure you answer YES
to the prompt "Print
in-line with marks?".
This allows you to
enter the mark location
settings manually so
the system can scan
a trial piece correctly
for the scan marks.
Otherwise, the trial
piece will fail to identify
the marks.

Integrity Levels with Associated Scan Code Functionality
This section gives brief descriptions of the available BCR and/or OMR marks.
There are three levels of scanning. Each level contains specific marks.
Basic Level
Beginning of Collation
(BOC)
End of Collation (EOC)
Benchmark (BM)
Checksum (CS)
Parity (PAR)
Safety (SAF)
Ignore (IGN)
Timing (TM)
Divert Finished (DVF)
Stop (ST)
NOTE: You may or may not have all of these marks available to you, depend-
ing upon the level(s) of OMR scanning you have purchased. However, if barcode
scanning is enabled, all of these options will be available.
The "About My Machine" screen on the inserter shows the level of scanning that
has been enabled on your system. Follow the steps below to navigate to the
screen:
1.
From the Home screen, select "Menu", then "Tools".
2.
Select "About My Machine".
One of the following marks must be present and must be marked as "Is con-
trolling" in the system: EOC, BOC, PC, or MC.
EOC is most frequently marked as "Is controlling".
If you only have 1 controlling mark and it is on the last sheet fed, you will
have to use EOC and set it to controlling.
If you only have 1 controlling mark and it is on the first sheet fed, you will
have to use BOC and set it to controlling. NOTE: BOC can only be control-
ling when fed from a High-Capacity Sheet Feeder (HCSF) with a BOC kit
installed.
If you have both, it is better to have EOC as controlling.
MC can only be controlling if used with SureTrac (SCS) software option
