Scan Codes
and Levels
TIP: See Appendix A,
Base Code Theory for
more information on
number bases.
TIP: Scan marks
or bits for multi-bit
functions must be
adjacent (contiguous)
to each other in the
scan definition and in
the printed mark. For
OMR, that means the
marks must be next
to each other. For
barcode, it means the
bits must be adjacent
to each other within a
byte, as well as adja-
cent bytes if "bridging"
across mutliple bytes.
TIP: The counting
value when scanning
multi-bit functions is
stored internally in
the DI900/DI950 soft-
ware because of the
different code bases
that can be used.

Barcode I 2 of 5 – The I 2 of 5 Barcode symbology supports up to base 10
counting functions (our normal decimal system we use everyday) because
it supports the printing of ASCII text characters 0-9. This means, within
one character (byte), you can count up to 10 numbers (0, 1, 2, 3, ... 9) be-
fore repeating. When you add another byte (character) for counting, you
are multiplying by 10 the number you can count up, since it is in a base 10
format. Consequently, scanning two bytes allow counting up to 10 x 10,
or 100 numbers (0, 1, 2, 3...99) before repeating. The table below shows
how the number combinations are created in base 10 with 2 characters
