1. TROUBLESHOOTING

This "TROUBLESHOOTING" shows only mechanical failures. The failures related to the common rail system
(CRS), refer to the diagnosis manual (DM) for common rail system engine (9Y120-02440).
Symptom
The engine does not
start
The starter does not
operate
Probable Cause
No fuel
Air in the fuel system
Water in the fuel system
The fuel pump is damaged
The fuel hose is clogged
The fuel filter is clogged
The viscosity of fuel at low temperature is too
high
The cetane number of fuel is low
Fuel leakage because of loose injection pipe
retaining nut
The injector is clogged
The supply pump is damaged
Seizure of the crankshaft, camshaft, piston or
bearing
Compression leakage from the cylinder
Incorrect valve timing
Piston ring and cylinder are worn out
Incorrect valve clearance
Discharged battery
Starter is damaged
The key switch is damaged
The connection of the wires is incorrect
Fill up the fuel
Bleed the air
Change the fuel and
repair or replace the
fuel system
Replace
Clean or replace
