1. TROUBLESHOOTING

NOTE
• This troubleshooting shows only mechanical failures. Regarding the failures of common rail system
(CRS), please refer to the diagnosis manual "COMMON RAIL SYSTEM ENGINE" (Code No. 9Y130-00142).
Symptom
Engine Does Not
Start
Starter Does Not Run
Probable Cause
No fuel
Air in the fuel system
Water in the fuel system
Electric fuel feed pump malfunctioning
Fuel hose clogged
Fuel filter clogged
Excessively high viscosity of fuel or engine oil at
low temperature
Fuel with low cetane number
Fuel leak due to loose injection pipe retaining nut
Injector clogged
Supply pump malfunctioning
Seizure of crankshaft, camshaft, piston, cylinder
or bearing
Compression leak from cylinder
Improper valve timing
Piston ring and cylinder worn
Excessive valve clearance
Battery discharged
Starter malfunctioning
Key switch malfunctioning
Wiring disconnected
Replenish fuel
Vent air
Drain the water in
fuel system
Replace
Clean or replace
Replace
Use specified fuel or
engine oil
Use specified fuel
Tighten retaining nut
