Autocalibration Theory
1
During Autocalibration, the system methodically cycles combinations of Exposure, Gain,
Morphology, and Pixel Binning. For each combination, the system takes 5 pictures and then
makes the following measurements, which it combines into an overall score for that attempt.
Signal Strength is defined as how many times the supplied image was decoded successfully
with a frequency of 5Hz, or every 5 images.
Interference is defined as any interference that will cause the X-Mode object search
algorithm to have a high deviation between inspections.
Noise is defined as any interference that will cause the X-Mode 1D or 2D detection algorithm
to have high deviation between inspections.
Propagation Disturbance is defined as any disturbance or noise in the image that will cause
the overall inspection time to have a high deviation between inspections. This disturbance can
be caused by:
• Background environment;
• Glare from the lighting;
• Reflections from the object on which the symbol is located;
• Anything that causes the Interference and Noise parameters to have a high deviation.

Scores for each measurement are based on this table:
• The overall score for the parameter set is calculated as a weighted sum of all the individual
measurements:
