Glossary
Navigator
The Navigator is the left-hand window in COMOS and is divided into three areas:
● Area for switching between projects and working layers
● Structure area
● Detail area
The structure area is divided into several tabs. Here, you can manage the project data in object
trees.
Node
Objects in COMOS are connected via unique and complete relations. The structure formed this
way is sometimes called a "tree" or "network". If you consider the data structure as a network,
then the individual objects are the nodes of the network.
Object Icon
Every object has an icon. It is used to display the object in the Navigator, in queries, or in other
user interfaces.
Objects
Data is always encapsulated in objects.

Plant bus
The following components communicate on the plant bus: servers (OS, Route Control) and
automation systems (AS) AS to AS (SIMATIC connections).
Plant/Unit
Group of functionally connected technical modules and the uppermost logical grouping that is
significant to the user in the technical area.
Plants are structured hierarchically, which means they can have subordinate plants or belong
to a superordinate unit such as a plant or project. Plants are created on the tab of the same
name in the Navigator in the engineering view.
Plugin
A closed functional component that can be loaded or replaced separately. Plugins in COMOS
are started via the Plugin menu bar. This technology is available for functional components that
must be replaced frequently.
