Operation
For an optimum charging frequency, the following applies:
n The batteries can be charged at any time, regardless of
the remaining charge.
n It takes about 10 hours until a discharged battery (only
one flashing segment) is fully charged. When the charg-
ing process is complete, the battery charger can remain
connected to the power wheelchair with no risk of over-
charging or damaging the battery. The battery charger
features a programmed recharging phase that will
maintain the battery capacity at the level that has been
reached.
n For daily use, connecting the charger overnight is recom-
mended so that the full capacity is available every day.
n If the wheelchair is not used for extended periods of
time, the batteries gradually discharge. If the power
wheelchair is not driven for extended periods of time, a
charging cycle must be carried out at least 1 x per week
in order to maintain the battery capacity. Removing the
fuse is recommended for extended periods of disuse.
n Total discharge of the batteries should be avoided.
n When the batteries are charging, the power wheelchair
control unit must be switched off to allow all of the
charging current to be fed into the battery.
Page 138
The following must be observed when charging the batteries:
n Only the battery charger provided by Otto Bock for this
purpose may be used for charging. Failure to comply
with this requirement will render the warranty null and
void.
n The voltage settings on the battery charger must cor-
respond to the voltage used in your country.
6.5.2 Battery Charger
WARNING
Explosion hazard due to sparks.  Always  switch  off  the
battery charger and remove the mains plug before discon-
necting the battery.
NOTICE
Unauthorized battery replacement. The battery may only
be  replaced  by  a  specialist  dealer.  The  characteristic
curve of the battery charger set at the factory corresponds
to the battery provided and must not be changed. Setting
the  characteristic  curve  incorrectly  can  result  in  perma-
nent damage to the battery.
