Using the AUTOINST Utility
A
This section describes the AUTOINST utility in detail. You can use the
AUTOINST utility within a login script to install the Management Agent and
to run the Update Requester on member machines.
W
The AUTOINST utility appends <program path> to the RUN= line in the
[Windows] section of WIN.INI. This causes the file specified in <program
path> to run when Windows starts.
Usage
AUTOINST <Windows directory> <Setup program path> [/FORCE]
This command appends to the RUN= line in [Windows] to ensure that the
client installer setup program runs once when Windows starts.
Example
If WIN.INI is in C:\WINDOWS, and the Windows 3.1 Management Agent is
in SYS:PUBLIC\ME_CLNT, add the following to a NetWare system login
script:
; Map the drive
MAP ROOT F:=SYS:PUBLIC\ME_CLNT
#AUTOINST C:\WINDOWS F:\SETUP.EXE
(Note that the # before AUTOINST is a NetWare-specific command in the
login script to indicate that NetWare must run an external program.)
The login script changes an example WIN.INI file as follows:
Old WIN.INI
[WINDOWS]
RUN=NWPOPUP.EXE
NOTE: The option to update software using a NetWare login script and
the AUTOINST.EXE utility is only applicable if you're performing
software upgrades (not first-time installs).
New WIN. INI
[WINDOWS]
RUN=NWPOPUP.EXE F:\SETUP.EXE
