2. Select the extra .DAT in the right-hand pane, and click Add.
3. Click OK.
Follow these steps to install an extra .DAT to one machine:
1. Select the extra .DAT under the Repository.
2. Drag it onto the required machine in the Management Console's
You may find you have two (or more) extra .DATs with the same name. If this
occurs, unless we have supplied an updated extra .DAT with the same name
as a previous version (for example, to update a "quick fix" or recognize new
variants), you have added the same extra .DAT(s) two or more times.
To allow the on-access and on-demand scanner to use the extra .DAT, you
must reboot the machine.
Member machines and multiple extra .DAT files
Although you can add multiple extra .DATs to a Repository, do not install
multiple .DATs on member machines. The reasons are as follows:
• Specific extra .DATs are usually needed urgently and are produced and
tested individually, but they may not give optimum performance when
running with other new .DATs.
• Use of extra .DATs on member machines can slow down the scanning
process considerably.
