Updating Your Anti-virus Software
W
Windows NT, Windows 95, and Windows 98 machines
To prepare Windows NT, Windows 95, and Windows 98 machines, include a
line to run MEUPRQ32.EXE (the 32-bit Update Requester) in a login script. The
32-bit Update Requester does the actual brad packet send itself, registering
with the Communications Agent (BRAD32.EXE), getting the machine name,
reading MEUP.CFG for the Management Server name, and then sending the
collection. (Because it's a 32-bit app that runs in the Windows subsystem, you
won't see a DOS box when you run it. Also, you can run it from the startup
group, a login script, or any other method.)
MEUPRQ32.EXE error codes
To see update messages, run MEUPRQ32.EXE with the switch /VERBOSE to
get printable output or with the switch /MESSAGEBOX to view the messages
in a message box. During an update, you may see one or more of the following
strings, which correspond to error codes:
Error
level
0
1
2

Management Edition
NOTE: Login scripts cannot be used for first-time installation. The
machines must have Management Agent already installed and running.
However, you can install the Management Agent via right-click Apply
Configuration in the console, and then add VirusScan via the update
from login script option, making it two separate steps rather than one.
When using MEUPRQ32.EXE/MEUPRQ16.EXE (updating via login
script), you must have applied the configuration to the target machine at
least once, so that the machine name is in bold.
The first update of a Name Provider installed machine must be via
normal Batch, Pull Off, or Push On methods; it cannot be via the Update
Requester. You won't need to rollout any anti-virus software for the first
update; the machine just needs its domain information, so that it knows
which machine is the Management Server and thus from which machine
it should request updates.
Before upgrading via login script or using the Name Provider client
install method, you must click the Management Server and choose Apply
Configuration; otherwise, the installation will fail.
