• "Credentials entered in Management Console" refers to whether the user
domain, user ID, and password for the mirror repository have been entered
in the Management Console's Configure Mirror dialog box.
• "Repository in same or trusted domain" refers to the mirror repository
being either in the same domain as or a domain that is trusted by the one
to which the Windows 95 or Windows 98 machine logs on.
• "Repository in different, non-trusted domain" refers to the mirror
repository being in a different, non-trusted domain than the one to which
the Windows 95 or Windows 98 machine logs on.
• "Successful update" refers to whether the update was successful ("Yes") or
the update failed ("No").
Configuring a user group other than EVERYONE
If you want to use a user group other than the built-in group EVERYONE to
control access to mirrors, you can do so, but you will only be able to update
Windows 95 and Windows 98 machines if they are currently logged on to a
Windows NT domain. If you use the Batch Install method (with the Update
from login script option selected), you can ensure that the client machines are
logged on to the Windows NT domain when they receive an update.
Follow these steps to use a different user group:
1. Create a group (or use an existing one) and add all the relevant users to
that group.
Remember that the Management Edition program performs updates on
a per machine basis, not on a per user basis. Any user in this group
logging on to any managed machine will cause an update to be requested
for that machine. If there is no update for that machine, the process is
invisible to the user; however, if there is an update available, the normal
update procedure will occur.
2. Grant the group Read access to the REPO$ share and Full Control access
to the MEUPGD$ share.
3. Remove the EVERYONE group's access to both the REPO$ and
MEUPGD$ shares.
Remember to ensure that the account you intend to use to update the
mirror and to use the Management Console to update machines with has
Full Control access to both shares.
4. Set up your Windows NT login scripts to run the 32-bit Update Requester
every time a user in the group logs on.
