Joystick Controls
Arm Joystick
The joystick is used to control the automated arm of the Automizer
console at the center of the cab or near the right-hand side door. In some units, two joysticks are
installed in the cab: one on the console, the other near the right-hand side door.
The controls on the joystick are the handle, the back, top and front buttons, and the deadman switch
(see Figure 3-42).
The handle is used to control the horizontal and vertical movements of the arm's two main
components.
The back buttons are used to control the opening and closing movement of the grabber: the right
button is used to open the grabber, the left button to close it.
The top and front buttons are optional or customized buttons that may be used to operate an
optional device or piece of equipment such as a crusher panel.
The deadman switch is used as a safety device to ensure that every movement of the arm is
absolutely wanted and controlled by the operator. That is, if the operator is not pressing the
deadman switch while trying to move the arm with the joystick, no movement will occur. With
such a safety feature, an accidental movement of the joystick will not be transmitted to the arm.
Joysticks operate at 45° and 90° angles. As a result, you can perform two functions at the same time;
for example, you can move the arm and the grabber simultaneously.
