Hydraulics
Hydraulic fluid operates under high temperatures. Avoid
to prevent burns.
 Never use hands to check for leaks. Hydraulic fluid escaping under pressure may cause injury.
 In case of injury seek proper medical treatment immediately.
Fire Protection
Take note of the following:
 The employer must inform and train all personnel on the measures that must be taken in case of a
vehicle and/or a loaded body catching fire.
 Anytime a loaded vehicle is brought inside a garage, fire extinguishers shall be close at hand.
 The employer must also inform their employees of an appropriate place near the maintenance
facility to unload the body (preferably away from traffic, surface drains, and ditches).
Keep a fire extinguisher accessible at all
 Never use lighted smoking materials, open flame or sparks around when working with flammable
materials such as fuel tanks or storage batteries.
 Never have an open flame as a light source.
 Never load ashes or other materials which might be smoldering. These materials could ignite
refuse in the body.

20-lb fire extinguisher may be installed on the truck as an option (see Figure 2-1). Each fire
extinguisher must be checked regularly by qualified personnel.

Operators who need to climb the automated arm as part of their job must use the ladder
provided for this purpose. Any other ladder, stepladder, or lift must be used only when
the truck is locked out and tagged out. Failure to do so could result in serious injury or
death. Operators who need to climb the automated arm as part of their job must use the

accordance with the lockout/tagout procedure. Do not attempt to climb the arm using

operate the truck if this button is defective. Failure to do so could result in serious injury or
death.
