3-18 Setting for the PUR glue
Setting of the spine glue thickness
The spine glue thickness in PUR binding can be
adjusted by changing the height of the scraper
roller. At first, set the scraper roller to the standard
position.
Setting to the standard position
• Set the scraper roller to the same height as the
bottom of the milled book block ("0" of height)
referring to the drawing to the right.

• Press the button on the Setup - Glue
Settings Screen.
When setting to the standard position
The scraper roller height: -1.05 mm
The second glue roller height: 0.7 mm
The first and second wiper opening: 0.4 mm
- When you bind the book with PUR glue and select
"Level" for the milling angle, select "manual" and
set the wiper opening to +0.2mm / 0.01" or wider.
When the spine glue function is set to
"automatic", the wiper opening is 0.4mm / 0.02"
and the gule may not applied to the spine.
Then raise the scraper roller by turning the scraper roller
height adjusting screw clockwise so that the spine glue
thickness is uniform and adequate (from 0.3 mm to 0.5
mm). Do a test binding to check the spine glue thickness.
After adjusting the scraper roller height, check the
shape of the finished spine. Adjust the nipper
height if necessary. (See Section 3-12 for details.)
The shape of the finished spine may be
sometimes neat by selecting the milling setting for
EVA. When selecting the milling setting for EVA,
the notching cutters cut the spine deeply, so the
wiper opening may need to be a little wider.
After the job is finished, clean the tank.
