BRAKE SYSTEM

BRAKE FLUID INSPECTION

The following checks are recommended to keep the
brake system in good operating condition. Service life of
the brake system components depends on operating
conditions. Inspect the brake system as recommended in
the maintenance interval charts.
• Verify the fluid in the front brake master cylinder
reservoir is at specified level.

• Check the fluid level "eye"
indication that fluid is needed or the brake pads may
be worn, which can reduce the fluid level.
• If the fluid level is low, add .25" - .30" (6 - 8 mm) from
the top of the reservoir.

• Verify the fluid in the rear brake master cylinder
reservoir is at specified level. If the fluid level is low,
using a funnel, add brake fluid to the MAX level mark
on the reservoir.
• Use the Polaris recommended lubricant.
Recommended Lubricant:
Polaris DOT 4 Brake Fluid
IMPORTANT
DO NOT OVERFILL!
Excess brake fluid may cause brake drag. Fill to the
indicated fill line or specification.
Only use DOT 4 Brake Fluid approved by Polaris.
Mixing fluids can cause system degradation. Always
use a new sealed container of brake fluid. After opening
a new bottle, properly dispose of the unused portion of
brake fluid. After a bottle is opened , it will take on air
and moisture and will start to degrade.
• Check the brakes for excessive travel or spongy feel.
• Check the brake system for fluid leaks.
• Check the friction of the brake pads for wear, damage,
or looseness.
• Check the surface condition of the brake discs.
