Test Procedures

TEST PROCEDURE 11 – Fan Motor
See General Warnings, Section 1, Page 1-2.
The fan relay activates the radiator fan when the engine coolant reaches a temperature range of 187 °F to 198 °F
(86 °C to 92 °C) and closes the fan thermostat switch.
Fan Motor
1.
Disable the vehicle. See Disabling the Vehicle on page 1-3.
2.
Disconnect the two-pin connector from the thermostat switch (Figure 12-20, Page 12-23) and install a jumper
wire between the frame and the 18-gauge yellow/black wire in the connector.
3.
With the Forward/Reverse handle still in the NEUTRAL position, turn the key switch to the ON position. The fan
motor should run. If not, test voltage to fan motor.
Voltage to Fan Motor
1.
Disable the vehicle. See Disabling the Vehicle on page 1-3.
2.
Raise the hood.
3.
Disconnect the two-pin connector from the fan motor (Figure 12-19, Page 12-23).
4.
Disconnect the two-pin connector from the thermostat switch (Figure 12-20, Page 12-23).
5.
Place a jumper wire between the frame and the 18-gauge yellow/black wire at the two-pin connector disconnected
from the thermostat switch.
6.
Set a multimeter to measure 20 VDC.
7.
Place the multimeter probes into each terminal of the two-pin connector disconnected from the fan motor (wire
harness side).
