5-1. Genaral Information for Tape Path Adjustment
5-1-1. Notes
(1) Cassette compartment
. The tape path adjustment should be performed under the state that the cassette
compertment is removed. If not, some checks and adjustments may be
impossible.
(For the removal of the cassette compartment, refer to Section 1-1-2.)
. When the tape path adjustment is performed with the cassette compartment
removed, the tape protection circuit is activated and the "ERROR" message
may be displayed. In this case, turn the power off, then turn it on again.
(2) Cassette tape
When setting the cassette tape or the alignment tape on the unit, put it to the
cassette supports on the mechanical deck. And then, put a weight on the cassette
so that it does not rise up. The weight about 1000 g is suitable.
(3) Tape running operation
The functional operation described in the adjustment procedures Sections 5-3
and later is performed using a PC. The "xx mode" in the adjustment procedures
indicates the state in which the corresponding key or command is executed from
the PC.

5-1-2. Preparation
(1) Remove the upper lid and plate MD assembly. (Refer to Section 1-1-1.)
(2) Remove the cassette compartment. (Refer to Section 1-1-2.)
(3) Remove the rotary head cleaner. (Refer to Section 3-3-4.)

If the rotary head cleaner assembly is installed, the tape running condition may
be difficult to check. Therefore, remove the rotary head cleaner assembly before
checking.
(For the removal of the rotary head cleaner assembly, refer to Section 3-4-2.)
(4) Clean the following.
. Rotary heads (Refer to Section 2-1-2.)
. Tape running surface and lead portion of lower drum (Refer to Section 2-1-3.)
. Stationary heads (Refer to Section 2-1-4.)
. Tape running system and tape cleaner (Refer to Section 2-1-5.)
