General Information

The Front End includes all the boards in the Front End Card Cage, as follows:
• Front End Board:
• MUX Board:
• BF64 (Beamformer Board)
• FEC (Front End Controller Board)
• RFT (Radio Frequency & Tissue Board)
• IMP2 (Image Port 2)
• RFI (Radio Frequency Interface Board). On units with RFI, the RFI board replaces FEC, RFT and
IMP2.
The Front End Crate includes seven components (five components in units with RFI), as described in
the following sections:
• Front Board Assembly (FB)
• MUX Board
• Beamformer Board (BF)
• Front End Controller Board (FEC)(RFT)
• RF and Tissue Processor Board (RFT)
• Image Port Board (IMP)
• Radio Frequency Interface Board (RFI)
• Back Plane Board (Motherboard)
NOTE: The VIC Board is located inside the VIC Assembly Unit and is not part of the Front End Crate,
but rather a part of the Back End Processor. The VIC Board is described in detail in the Back
End Processor section, page 5-25.
