Upgrade options
You have the option of initiating an upgrade of the CNC software with a USB flash drive:
Note
An upgrade is possible as of CNC software 1.12. An upgrade from other software versions is
not permitted. In this case, a new installation is required.
Before the upgrade, you can make a backup of the entire SD card. You can restore this backup
to the SD card with the Restore function.
Data backup before upgrades
Carry out a data backup before each upgrade:
● Commissioning archive of NC/PLC data
● Load PLC project to PC/PG (TIA Portal)
● License key
When you upgrade, all user data on the SD card in directories /user, /addon, /oem are retained,
as is the license key.
Before you overwrite a licensed SD card, you must back up the the license key. The key is
available in file 'keys.txt'' and is stored under the path keys/sinumerik.
Note
The licenses are permanently assigned to the SD card (card ID) and can only be used on this
card.
The license key can be read back via Web License Manager (Page 43) using the card number.
Tools for installation/upgrade
For an installation/upgrade, you require a bootable USB flash drive with approx. 16 GB capacity
as your MCU service system. See Chapter "Creating a service system (Page 171)" for how to
create a service system.
