tire, look for any movement between the upper ball
joint and the knuckle.
(3) If any lateral movement is evident at the upper
ball joint, the upper control arm will need to be
replaced.
UPPER BALL JOINT SEAL
BOOT
REMOVAL
(1) Remove upper control arm from vehicle. (Refer
to 2 - SUSPENSION/REAR/UPPER CONTROL ARM
- REMOVAL)
(2) Using screw driver or other suitable tool, pry
seal boot off of ball joint (Fig. 46).

INSTALLATION
(1) Wipe off used grease around ball joint stem.
(2) Place NEW ball joint seal boot over ball joint
stem.
(3) By hand, start seal boot bottom flange over
sides of ball joint.
(4) Position Installer, Special Tool 6761, over seal
boot aligning it with bottom flange (Fig. 47). Apply
hand pressure to the rear of Installer until seal boot
flange is pressed squarely against control arm.
Remove tool.

(5) Install upper control arm on vehicle. (Refer to 2
- SUSPENSION/REAR/UPPER CONTROL ARM -
INSTALLATION)
UPPER CONTROL ARM
REMOVAL
The upper control arm and the knuckle are
removed from the vehicle together, then separated.
(Refer to 2 - SUSPENSION/REAR/KNUCKLE -
REMOVAL).
DISASSEMBLY - ISOLATOR BUSHINGS
NOTE: The following procedure can be used for
either upper control arm isolator bushing.
CAUTION: Use a vise equipped with soft jaw caps
to protect the surface of the control arm from dam-
age.
