POWER LOCKS
POWER LOCKS (Continued)
DOOR EXIT
The vehicle is exited by pulling the inside door
handle. This will activate an electrical switch which
is received by the Body Control Module (BCM). The
virtual lock state for the door will be set to unlock
and BCM will power the doors unlatch motor. If the
handle is pulled hard enough, then a cable will
mechanically open the door. If the inside door switch
request is present for more than 10 seconds, then a
stuck fault will be stored in the BCM. If a Passenger
inside door lock switch signal is active then inputs
from the outside handle and door lock switch shall be
ignored. The Driver door outside handle has a sepa-
rate input and works independently from the inside
handle and lock switch.
REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY
This vehicle utilizes a Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)
module that has a serial link to the Body Control
Module (BCM). The RKE system allows locking and
unlocking as well as arming and disarming of the
security system with a hand held transmitter.
OPERATION
DOOR ENTRY
The vehicle is entered by pushing the outside door
handle. This will activate an electrical switch which
is received by the Body Control Module (BCM). If the
virtual state of the door is unlock, then the BCM will
power the doors unlatch motor, activate the illumi-
nated entry and smart glass function. If the outside
door handle switch request is present more than 10
seconds, then a stuck fault will be stored in the
BCM. A stuck outside handle will not prevent
actuation from an inside handle signal.
DOOR EXIT
The vehicle is exited by pulling the inside door
handle. This will activate an electrical switch which
is received by the Body Control Module (BCM). The
virtual lock state for this door will be set to unlock
and BCM will power the doors unlatch motor and
perform the smart glass function. If the handle is
pulled far enough, then a cable will mechanically
open the door. If the inside door switch request is
present for more than 10 seconds, then a stuck fault
will be stored in the BCM. If an inside door lock
switch signal is active then inputs from the out-
side handle and door lock switch shall be
ignored.
DOOR LOCK SWITCH
When the Body Control Module (BCM) receives an
input from the lock switch indicating a door lock/un-
lock request is present, the BCM will set both doors
of the vehicle to virtual lock or unlock. If the door
lock switch request is present for more than 10 sec-
onds then a fault will be stored in the BCM.
DOOR LOCK INHIBIT
If the key is in the ignition and either door is ajar,
then a request to lock the vehicle shall be ignored
when activating either door lock switch. Pressing the
RKE lock/unlock button under these conditions shall
result in a normal lock/unlock lock status.
AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS
This vehicle has a automatic door lock feature that
will set the vehicle to virtual lock when certain con-
ditions are set. This feature can be enabled or dis-
abled by using the DRBIII or by the customer. It is
initially set to enabled. The vehicle is set to virtual
lock when all the requirements listed below have
been met:
• Vehicle speed is equal to or greater than 18 mph
• All doors are closed
• The engine controller has set the okay to lock
doors
• The doors were not previously locked, via the
power door lock switch or RKE when the ignition is
in the run/start position
Once all conditions are met, the Body Control Mod-
ule (BCM) will set the vehicle to virtual lock and
send a message to the cluster indicating lock status.
Once an automatic door lock has occurred, opening
any door will reactivate the automatic door lock fea-
ture when the above listed conditions are again met.
KEY CYLINDER FUNCTION
The driver door key cylinder will allow the opera-
tor to perform a driver door entry, disarm the vehicle,
set the vehicle to virtual unlock, activate the illumi-
nated entry and Smart Glass function. The key cyl-
inder switch has a separate resistively multiplexed
input to the Body Control Module (BCM). This switch
has two positions: Neutral (diagnostic) and Unlock.
The key cylinder is located on the drivers door
below the outside mirror.
Turning the key towards the rear of the vehicle
indicates an unlock signal to the (BCM). When an
unlock input from the key cylinder is detected, the
body controller will unlatch the driver door, activate
the Smart Glass function, disarm the Vehicle Theft
Alarm (VTA), activate the illuminated entry and set
the vehicle to virtual unlock.
