PASS AIRBAG OFF INDICATOR
DESCRIPTION
The Passenger Airbag OFF Indicator is part of the
instrument cluster gauge pack. The indicator uses a
single integral amber Light Emitting Diode (LED)
and is not serviceable. The indicator is controlled by
the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) based on
the position of the passenger airbag ON/OFF switch,
located in the center console storage bin. See the
vehicles owner's manual in the vehicle glove box for
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER 8J - 7
specific recommendations on when to enable or dis-
able the passenger airbag. The passenger airbag
ON/OFF switch allows the customer to turn the pas-
senger airbag function ON or OFF to accommodate
certain uses of the right front seating position. The
lamp is visible to both occupants. the lamp is illumi-
nated whenever the passenger airbag ON/OFF switch
is set to the "OFF" switch position or whenever the
ORC has a fault that would dictate illuminating the
passenger airbag ON/OFF switch lamp.
OPERATION
When the passenger airbag ON/OFF switch is in
the OFF position, the Occupant Restraint Controller
(ORC) provides a ground to the ON/OFF switch
which energizes the Light Emitting Diode (LED) that
illuminates the lamp. The ORC will also illuminate
the ON/OFF switch for about seven seconds each
time the ignition switch is turned to the ON position
as a bulb check. The ORC will also store a Diagnostic
Trouble Code (DTC) for any fault it detects in the
passenger airbag ON/OFF switch lamp indicator cir-
cuit. For proper diagnosis of the switch a DRBIII
scan tool and the proper Body Diagnostic Procedures
manual must be used.
SEAT BELT WARNING
INDICATOR
DESCRIPTION
The enhanced seat belt reminder feature will
prompt the occupants to buckle their seat belt by
periodically flashing the seat belt indicator and
sounding an audible chime for a period of time.
OPERATION
To avoid nuisance warning, the enhanced seat belt
warning feature has been designed to look for specific
vehicle conditions before triggering the warning. The
conditions are:
• Ignition in RUN for greater than sixty seconds.
• Seat Belt unbuckled.
• Vehicle moving.
Once triggered, the enhanced warning feature will
continue until the occupant buckles his/her seat belt
or the feature times out after ninety seconds. This
feature can be disabled using a DRB III scan tool. It
is also customer programmable and may be enabled/
disabled by the customer.
