CHIME/BUZZER
CHIME/BUZZER (Continued)
ENHANCED SEAT BELT REMINDER
The enhanced seat belt reminder feature will
prompt the occupants to buckle their seat belt by
periodically flashing the seat belt indicator and
sounding an audible chime for a period of time.
To avoid nuisance warning, the enhanced seat belt
warning feature has been designed to look for specific
vehicle conditions before triggering the warning. The
conditions are:
• Ignition in RUN for greater than sixty seconds.
• Seat Belt unbuckled.
• Vehicle transmission not in reverse and vehicle
moving.
Once triggered, the enhanced warning feature will
continue until the occupant buckles his/her seat belt
or the feature times out after ninety seconds. This
feature can be disabled using a DRB III scan tool. It
is also customer programmable and may be enabled/
disabled by the customer.
In the event that the "enhanced seat belt warning"
feature is active and an additional secondary feature
that also uses the chime becomes active. The chime
priority strategy shall be as follows: If the secondary
feature causes a continuous chime then that feature
shall have priority and the chime shall remain con-
tinuously active during the "enhanced seat belt warn-
ing" period or until the continuous chime feature is
cancelled or times out. The "enhanced seat belt warn-
ing" control of the lamp shall continue for 12 cycles
regardless of the feature controlling the chime.
Should the secondary feature causing the continuous
chime be cancelled or time out, prior to the end of
"enhanced seat belt warning" period, the remaining
portion of the "enhanced seat belt warning" feature
shall be completed adding in the periodic chime dur-
ing the lamp flash period. Example: If "enhanced
seat belt warning" is active and the turn-signal
warning feature becomes active. The chime shall be
on continuously until the turn-signal warning is can-
celled. If the "enhanced seat belt warning" timed out
period has not expired when the turn-signal warning
feature is cancelled then the chime shall again
become active during the lamp flashing period of the
"enhanced seat belt warning" feature.
If another feature that would causes a single warn-
ing announcement chime becomes active while the
"enhanced seat belt warning" feature is also active.
The chime priority strategy shall be as follows: If the
"enhanced seat belt warning" feature is not currently
activating the chime (during the three-second steady
lamp period), then the chime shall be allowed to
sound to alert the customer of the addition of a new
warning. However if the "enhanced seat belt warn-
ing" feature is currently using the chime when an
additional
warning
requested, the request shall be ignored. Example: If
announcement
chime
the "enhanced seat belt warning" feature is currently
sounding the chime and the "washer fluid low" fea-
ture becomes active. The warning announcement
chime associated with the washer fluid lamp activa-
tion shall be ignored. However the washer fluid
warning lamp shall still be illuminated.
FASTEN SEAT BELT REMINDER
The seat belt reminder system uses both visual
and audible signals. The ORC monitors the driver
seat belt buckle switch. When the ignition switch
transitions from OFF to RUN and the driver seat
belt has not been buckled, the instrument cluster will
illuminate the seat belt indicator lamp and send a
message to the BCM to sound the chime. The system
will always illuminate the seat belt reminder lamp
for six to eight seconds when the ignition switch is
turned to the ON position. The CHIME will sound
during the same time interval if the driver's seat belt
is not fastened. The warning lamp will remain illu-
minated as long as the seat belt remains unbuckled,
and the ignition switch is in the RUN position. Pas-
senger seat belts are not connected to the system.
HEADLAMPS REMINDER
The BCM monitors the multi-function headlamp
switch. The headlamp audible warning will alert the
driver that the exterior lamps have been left on. If
the ignition switch is left OFF, the driver's door open,
and the headlamp switch is in the park lamp or
headlamp position, the chime will sound until the
headlamp switch is turned OFF, the door is closed or
the exterior lighting battery protection time out
expires (three minutes).
KEY IN IGNITION REMINDER
The BCM monitors the ignition switch. The chime
will activate if the drivers door is opened and the key
is in the ignition switch, with the ignition switch in
either the OFF, UNLOCK, or the accessory (ACC)
position. The chime will continue until the key is
removed from the ignition switch or the door is
closed. If the ignition switch is in the OFF position,
the chime will continue until an interior light battery
protection time out expires (15 minutes).
LOW FUEL REMINDER
When the fuel level drops to approximately 1/8
tank, the fuel symbol will light and a single chime
will sound. The light will remain on until fuel is
added.
PARK BRAKE/LOW BRAKE FLUID WARNING
The EMIC monitors a single wire input for both
park brake and low brake fluid. If the line is active
is
the EMIC will request a single chime on change.
