(b) Coat the threads on the shock absorber with
Mopar Lock 'N Seal.
(c) Thread the shock absorber into the clevis by
hand as far as possible.
(d) Pull back knob on Wrench, Special Tool 9024.
Slide Wrench down over shock absorber body, then
release knob, inserting spring-loaded tab into notch
of shock body as shown (Fig. 29).
(e) Attach a torque wrench to the Wrench square
drive hole, then tighten the shock absorber to 68
N·m (50 ft. lbs.) torque.
(f) Pull back the knob on the Wrench, and
remove it from the shock absorber.
(g) Remove
the
bracket from the vise.
NOTE: If the coil spring has been removed from the
spring compressor, proceed with the next step, oth-
erwise, proceed with step 4.
(2) Place the coil spring in the compressor follow-
ing the manufacturers instructions. Install the coil
spring in the compressor with the round coil end of
the spring facing downward while the flat coil end
faces upward.
(3) Compress the coil spring. Make sure com-
pressor hooks are properly placed so that the
shock absorber can be inserted up through the
coil spring once compressed.
(4) Insert the shock absorber up through the bot-
tom of the coil spring until the lower spring seat con-
tacts the lower end of the coil spring. Rotate the
shock until the coil spring end sits squarely against
the step built into the lower spring seat (Fig. 30).

(5) Holding the shock, collar and jounce bumper
upward, install the upper seat on the shock absorber
utilizing the cutout in the seat (Fig. 28).
(6) Position the upper seat on the top of the coil
spring so the cutout in the upper seat is not posi-
tioned at the upper end of the coil spring (Fig. 31).

(7) Slowly release the tension from the coil spring
by backing off the compressor drive completely. As
the tension is relieved, make sure the coil spring,
upper and lower seats, and shock absorber align
properly.
(8) Push back the spring compressor upper and
lower hooks, then remove the shock absorber assem-
bly from the spring compressor.
