VEHICLE THEFT SECURITY (Continued)
NOTE: The VTSS will not disarm by opening the
vehicle from the inside door handle.
If the VTSS is triggered, the horn will pulse, fog
lamps/park lamps will flash and the VTSS warning
lamp will flash (alarming) for three minutes. If a
trigger is still active after three minutes, then the
alarm will continue for an additional 15 minutes
without the horn.
The VTSS monitoring portion of the system is split
into three sections:
• Engine
• Passenger compartment
• Trunk compartment
If a malfunction occurs in the engine or trunk com-
partment section, the passenger compartment section
would still arm and function normally.
DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - VEHICLE THEFT
SECURITY
Any diagnosis of the Vehicle Theft Security
System (VTSS) should begin with the use of the
DRB III
diagnostic tool. For information on
the use of the DRB III , refer to the appropri-
ate Diagnostic Service Manual.
Refer to the appropriate wiring information. The
wiring information includes wiring diagrams, proper
wire and connector repair procedures, details of wire
harness routing and retention, connector pin-out
information and location views for the various wire
harness connectors, splices and grounds.
HOOD AJAR SWITCH
REMOVAL
(1) Disconnect and isolate the battery negative
cable.
(2) Using a flat blade tool, pry switch from the
bracket on the left fender well.
(3) Disconnect the wire harness connector from the
switch.
INSTALLATION
(1) Connect the wire harness connector to the
switch.
(2) Press the switch into position on the bracket.
(3) Connect the battery negative cable.
VTSS DISARM SWITCH
DESCRIPTION
In case of Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) failure, the
Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) Disarm Switch
can be used to disarm the VTSS. The VTSS disarm
switch is a key cylinder mounted, momentary contact
switch. This key cylinder is keyed the same as the
ignition key. This switch can only be used to disarm
the VTSS, not to arm the system. When the RKE or
the electric door lock switch is locked, the system will
then rearm itself.
The VTSS Disarm Switch is located on the drivers
door below the outside mirror. The VTSS Disarm
Switch is hardwired into the wire harness and is not
serviced separately.
OPERATION
To disarm the system using the VTSS disarm
switch, insert the key and turn to disarm the system.
VTSS INDICATOR
DESCRIPTION
The Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) uses a
VTA lamp to convey information on the status of the
system to the operator. The lamp is located in the
rear view mirror is not serviced separately.
OPERATION
For operation of the Vehicle Theft Security System
(VTSS) Indicator, (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/VEHI-
CLE THEFT SECURITY - OPERATION).
