Activating symbolic assignment retrospectively
Symbolic assignment significantly simplifies the configuration of the technological
relationships including the communication between controller and drive. The designation of
the symbolic assignments in plain text is also an advantage for maintenance of projects.
Symbolic assignment is therefore recommended and is activated automatically for new
projects from V4.2.
If symbolic assignment is used in a project, message frames, interconnections and
addresses of engineering system are created automatically by default.
At the same time the engineering system sets up "optimum" PROFIdrive message frames
including message frame extensions, performs the necessary BICO interconnections and
determines the addresses.
When projects are upgraded they can be converted to symbolic assignment and must be
evaluated on a case-by-case basis, since project revisions may be necessary.
Especially in cases where message frames have been freely configured (e.g. for TB30,
TM15 DI/DO, TM31), extensive revision can be expected.
CAUTION
If symbolic assignment is activated retrospectively for a project in which message frames
have already been configured and interconnected, these can be changed together with the
BICO interconnections.
For this reason, make a backup copy of your project before activating the symbolic
assignment.
For further details, please refer to the
Manual.
Assigning a drive later
You can create an axis in SIMOTION SCOUT and assign it later to a drive. This allows you
to load your user program to the controller and test it (except for drives that are not yet
present).
"Axes without an assigned drive" have the advantage compared to a procedure with
temporarily assigned "virtual axes" in that configuration data are fully available, and
reconfiguration of "virtual axis -> real axis" is not necessary.
