Diagnostic Procedure with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)
Step
1 CHECK TRANSMISSION TYPE.
2 CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN ECM AND
TCM CONNECTOR.
1) Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
2) Disconnect the connector from ECM and
TCM.
3) Measure the resistance of harness between
ECM and TCM connector.

(B136) No. 12 — (B55) No. 21:
3 CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN ECM AND
TCM CONNECTOR.
Measure the resistance between TCM connec-
tor and chassis ground.
Connector & terminal
(B55) No. 21 — Chassis ground:
4 CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN ECM AND
TCM CONNECTOR.
1) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
2) Measure the voltage between TCM connec-
tor and chassis ground.
Connector & terminal
(B55) No. 21 (+) — Chassis ground (–):
5 CHECK POOR CONTACT.
Check for poor contact of the TCM connector.
6 CHECK POWER OF VEHICLE SPEED SEN-
SOR.
1) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
2) Measure the voltage between vehicle speed
sensor connector and chassis ground.

(B17) No. 3 (+) — Chassis ground (–):
7 CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN ECM AND VE-
HICLE SPEED SENSOR.
1) Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
2) Disconnect the connector from the ECM
and vehicle speed sensor.
3) Measure the resistance of the harness
between the ECM and vehicle speed sensor
connector.

(B136) No. 12 — (B17) No. 1:
8 CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN ECM AND VE-
HICLE SPEED SENSOR.
Measure the resistance between vehicle speed
sensor connector and chassis ground.
Connector & terminal
(B17) No. 1 — Chassis ground:
9 CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN ECM AND VE-
HICLE SPEED SENSOR.
1) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
2) Measure the voltage between vehicle speed
sensor connector and chassis ground.
Connector & terminal
(B17) No. 1 (+) — Chassis ground (–):
Check
Is the transmission type AT?
Is the resistance less than 1 Ω? Go to step 3.
Is the resistance 1 MΩ or
more?
Is the voltage 10 V or more?
Is there poor contact of TCM
connector?
Is the voltage 10 V or more?
Is the resistance less than 1 Ω? Go to step 8.
Is the resistance 1 MΩ or
more?
Is the voltage 10 V or more?
