NSTRUCTIONS FOR TROUBLESHOOTING COMMON COMPONENT ERRORS
TABLE 5. Troubleshoot Nexus Station push-rod errors
Action | component
4
Inspect the turnstile motor and connections to
verify that it is operational. See
5
For a "failure to extend" error on a carrier being
dispatched, check the weight of the carrier to
verify that it is not excessive.
6
Remove all carriers from the station manually.
From the Diagnostics menu, retract the security
door if it is up. Then pull down the ring on the
pin actuator, and manually move the turnstile to
the right or left, removing carriers from the
front position until the turnstile is empty.
7
Test the push-rod from the Diagnostics menu.
Observe the signal indicators for the motor and
motor driver.
8
With a long screwdriver, move the rack-gear up
and down, and observe the movement.
Pull the storage panel off the bracket, remove
the base filter assembly, and access the push-
rod assembly through the filter opening.

Turnstile rotates to the left and right to advance carriers to

the front or back position as required.
If the turnstile does not rotate, the motor may require
replacement. Follow the instructions for troubleshoot-
ing turnstile errors.
If the turnstile won't move on a "failure to retract: error,
a carrier may be stuck in the back compartment. If you
suspect a carrier is stuck with the rod extended, you
may need to retract the rod manually.
Carrier weight is less than eight pounds.
If the carrier weight exceeds eight pounds, separate the
contents into two carriers if possible, or reduce the
weight of the carrier and attempt to send it again.
Carriers can be successfully removed from the turnstile.
If carriers cannot be removed, a carrier may be stuck in
the back position. If you suspect a carrier is stuck with
the rod extended, you may need to retract the rod man-
ually. See instructions below for moving the push-rod
assembly by manipulating the gear rack with a screw-
driver.
Driver LEDs (D12 and D13) flash as the push-rod is moved
up and down from the menu.
If the driver LEDs do not light up, or if they remain
lighted even as the push-rod is engaged and disengaged
the drivers may be bad, requiring the I/O board to be
replaced.
Upward movement is smooth and free of impediments.
Push the rack-gear to the top of the assembly, and release
the screwdriver to let the rack fall on its own.
If the movement of the rack is smooth, and it drops eas-
ily after the screwdriver is released, test the movement
again from the Diagnostics menu.
If moving the rack with the screwdriver is difficult or
there is significant resistance moving up or down, then
the pinion may require adjustment. It is part of the
motor, which is mounted on the push-rod cylinder with
four screws. You must remove the core assembly to
replace the push rod and/or the motor that is attached
to it.
