Upgrading the Software

This section describes how to upgrade the system software for an Oracle ZFS Storage
Appliance. You can upgrade software using either the BUI or CLI.
Use the following topics and tasks to upgrade the software:
"Preparing to Upgrade the Software" on page 321
"Upgrading Software on a Standalone Controller" on page 322
"Upgrading Software on Clustered Controllers" on page 327

Preparing to Upgrade the Software

Before you upgrade the software, perform the following recommended actions. During the
update process, some protocols may experience an outage. For more information about these
protocols and upgrading the appliance, you can reference the white paper
Upgrading Oracle ZFS Storage
Verify your current software version.
Download the relevant software release. See Checking for and Downloading Software
Updates BUI, CLI.
Remove extraneous system updates. See Removing System Updates BUI, CLI.
Check the most recent release notes for additional preconditions that should be observed
for the software release. If skipping some software releases, also review the release notes
from all applicable previous releases. See My Oracle Support document
Appliance: Software Updates
Disable Analytics data collection. See Suspending and Resuming a Dataset BUI, or
Suspending and Resuming All Datasets CLI.
Create a backup copy of the management configuration to minimize downtime in the event
of an unforeseen failure. See Creating a Configuration Backup BUI, CLI.

In the BUI, go to Maintenance > System.
In the CLI, go to maintenance system updates and enter show.
