Chapter 10 Machine Overview
10.1 Print Process
[Cleaning]
The cleaning is divided into three types: physical drum cleaning, electric drum cleaning, and electric
BTR cleaning.
- Physical drum cleaning
This system removes the remaining toner on the drum surface.
The remaining toner on the drum surface without being transferred in the [transfer] step is
scratch-removed by the cleaning blade coming into contact with the drum surface.
The scratch-removed toner is collected in an area separate from one of unused toner (in the
Drum/toner cartridge) as disposal toner.
- Electric drum cleaning
* This system removes the remaining charge on the drum surface in the preceding step and
equalizes the charge level.
With the minus DC/AC voltage supplied from the BCR, the system equalizes the unevenness
of the remaining charge on the drum, and equally recharges with minus power until the DC
bias voltage level is reached. (See the [charge] step.)
* The system then scans the drum surface by laser beams, removes the remaining charge on
the drum, and equalizes the charge level.
The system removes the remaining charge stacked on the drum by the preceding print
operation and equalizes the charge level by radiating laser beams on all the drum surface at
the beginning of the continuous print operation (while the main motor rotates continuously).
- Electric BTR cleaning
The system oppositely transfers toner stick on the BTR on the drum.
The system transfers toner stacked on the BTR by the preceding print operation to the drum
to clean the BTR surface by applying minus high voltage (opposite voltage with one applied in
the [transfer] step) to the BTR at the beginning and end of the continuous print operation.
