You should clean a tape drive when any of the following
conditions occur:
Use only DLT CleaningTape III. To order cleaning cartridges,
contact Exabyte

The library displays "Clean D1 or D2" on the Status Screen of
the LCD.
The tape drive displays the Use Cleaning Tape LED (see
page 108).
The Tape Drive Status screen displays a Clean indicator (see
page 114).
Your application software notifies you. (Not all software
applications display cleaning requirements.)
Some software applications monitor the tape drive's
cleaning needs and automatically insert the cleaning
cartridge in the drive whenever it needs cleaning. If this is
true in your case, skip the following cleaning instructions.
Do not use cloth swabs, cotton swabs, cleaning
agents, or cleaning cartridges not approved for
your tape drive.
