External Passcode Validation Log

The system creates daily EPV event logs when External Passcode Validation (EPV) is enabled
and functioning on the system. (See
information.) The files are located in the /usr/dcb/apilog directory. The filename consists of a
single string that denotes the year, month, and day (yyyymmdd). For example, file 20020109 is
generated for January 09, 2002.

An EPV log serves an important purpose. It includes the results of Ping operations, which the
system runs every minute to test connectivity between the system and the external passcode
database. The Ping results can be monitored by a "watchdog" process that can generate event/
alarm notifications if it detects disruption of the connectivity between the system and the
external passcode database.
