Configuring VLAN Stacking
required and other scenarios where the default SVLAN association is sufficient. The following conditions
determine the port-SVLAN binding requirements:
Binding network ports to SVLANs (customer or provider) is required to carry customer and provider
traffic over the service provider network.
Binding user ports to SVLANs is required when using port-VLAN-based VLAN Stacking (more than
one SVLAN per port).
Binding user-customer and user-provider ports to SVLANs is not required if only one SVLAN per port
is needed. Since the port was already bound to a default SVLAN when the port was configured for
VLAN Stacking, the default SVLAN is used and no additional bindings are required.
When using port-VLAN-based VLAN Stacking, each customer VLAN (CVLAN) on a user-customer port
can be bound to different SVLANs. Several user-customer ports can share a single SVLAN (ideally those
user-customer ports belong to the same customer). A VLAN Stacking network port can have multiple
SVLANs.
To bind a VLAN Stacking user-customer port or user-provider port to an SVLAN, enter vlan svlan port
followed by the slot/port number, then cvlan followed by the customer VLAN number, and then svlan
followed by the SVLAN number. For example, to associate user port 1/1 for customer VLAN 10 to
SVLAN 1310 enter:
-> vlan svlan port 1/1 cvlan 10 svlan 1310
To bind a VLAN Stacking network port to a customer SVLAN or a provider SVLAN, use the vlan svlan
port command without the cvlan parameter. For example, to associate network port 1/24 to SVLAN 1310,
enter:
-> vlan svlan port 1/24 svlan 1310
When configuring an SVLAN-port association for a user port, you can also specify double tagging or
VLAN translation, which is used only if the customer VLAN is specified (which also implies the use of
port-VLAN-based VLAN Stacking). The VLAN translation feature translates a CVLAN ID to an SVLAN
ID as the packet enters the service provider network and translates the SVLAN ID back to the CVLAN ID
as the packet exits the service provider network.
Note. VLAN Translation is supported only on a per-port-VLAN basis, and not on a per-port basis where
only double tagging is used.
For example, to associate port 1/1 for customer VLAN 10 and SVLAN 1310 as double tagging enter:
-> vlan svlan port 1/1 double-tag cvlan 10 svlan 1310
SVLAN-port association is rejected if the SVLAN does not exist, the port is not a VLAN Stacking port,
the port is a member of an aggregate, or the aggregate does not exist.
