Tensioning the Alternator Belt

1. Slightly loosen the bottom alternator bolt. Loosen the
top alternator bolt (Fig. 635).

2. Using a wooden handle or pry bar to pivot the alter-
nator away, from the engine block, tension the drive
belt until there is 1/4" to 11/32" (7 to 9mm) defl ection
in the belt between the engine and the alternator
pulleys with 22.1 lbs. of force (10 kgf) (Fig. 636).
