How It Works

A continuous tone will sound when the engine tempera-
ture switch connects to ground as the engine reaches a
certain temperature (Fig. 668).

Testing

Connect a positive lead from a 12 volt battery to the
+ terminal on the back of the audible alarm. Connect

the negative lead to the S terminal on the back of the
audible alarm. The alarm should emit a continuous tone.

Temperature Sender

Purpose

The temperature sender is a temperature-dependent
variable resistor. As the coolant temperature increases,
the internal resistance decreases. This causes a change
in voltage applied to the water temperature gauge, which
indicates a higher temperature.

Location

The temperature sender is located on the top of the
engine block on the front end of the engine (Fig. 669).
