Before you get started

Obtaining Avaya Registration Tool
information
The Avaya Registration Tool (ART) is a Web-based program that permits Avaya employees to perform
product registrations and related procedures. Access the ART Web site (http://art.dr.avaya.com). You
need to obtain the following information from ART to complete and test the RSA configuration:
The Avaya product ID. (Note: The RSA card uses the same ID as the server.)
For modem alerting: Obtain the Avaya services telephone number that receives the alerts for your
region.
For LAN alerting: Obtain the Avaya services IP address for the media server that will receive the
alerts for your region.
For RSA access: Obtain an RSA password

Remote Supervisor Adapter power

The RSA obtains power from an external power source or from the Avaya S8500 Media Server. For
external power, plug the cord from the power-supply adapter into the power connector on the RSA. The
power cord must be plugged from the power-supply adapter into the power source. A power LED on the
RSA lights when one or both of the following conditions are met:
The RSA is receiving power from the external power-supply adapter.
The RSA is receiving power from the Avaya S8500 Media Server in which it is installed.

LAN and serial port connectivity

Serial modem
The serial modem is used on the RSA to forward alerts to alert recipients and for remote access. For
information on how to connect the serial modem to the RSA, see
LAN connectivity
To provide SNMP alerting over LAN connectivity, connect a customer-provided CAT5 cable to the
Ethernet port on the RSA card.
