1. Transmission range sensor
2. Select cable
3) After installing transmission range sensor to manual shift shaft,
move transmission range sensor by hand in arrow direction as
shown in left figure. Stop at the position where a "click" from joint
is heard or felt by hand and then secure it.
Tightening Torque
(a): 18 N·m (1.8 kg-m, 13.0 lb-ft)
(b): 7 N·m (0.7 kg-m, 5.0 lb-ft)
4) Connect coupler and clamp wire harness.
5) Upon completion of transmission range sensor installation,
check for its proper installation according to the following.
i) Apply parking brake and block vehicle wheels.
ii) With selector lever shifted to P range, turn starter switch ON
and check that this causes starting motor to operate.
iii) Shift selector lever from P to N range, turn starter switch ON
and check that this causes starting motor to operate.
iv) Shift selector lever from N to L range and then back to N
range, turn starter switch ON and check that this causes
starting motor to operate.
v) Shift selector lever from N to P range and check starting mo-
tor for operation as in step iv).
vi) Check to make sure that in any other range than P and N
ranges, starting motor doesn't operate even when starter
switch is turned ON.
vii)Turn ignition switch ON (without starting engine) and shift
selector lever to R range. Then check that backup lamp light.
6) If any check result was unsatisfactory in step v), remove trans-
mission range sensor and perform step i) to iv) all over again.
