Fitting the multi-function gun with a single side electrode
1. Thread the lock nut on the multi-function gun counter-clockwise to
open the tool holder on the gun. Normally, the nut can be opened by
hand, but if the nut is stuck it can be opened with the notch below
the dent puller holder (see Figure 4.8).
2. Make sure that the tip of the single side electrode is domed. For
changing the electrode (refer to the section "Changing the single
spot electrode" below).
3. Insert the single side electrode (and the electrode holder) into the
tool holder.
4. Lock the tool holder by turning the lock nut clockwise.
NOTE: To achieve a quality weld nugget it is important that the tip of the
single spot electode is evenly rounded. It is also important that the tip of the
electrode is domed.
A used electrode can be sharpened using a electrode tip dresser. Place the
electrode into the drill chuck. Rotate the drill chuck and grind the electrode
tip using a electrode tip dresser.
NOTE: The electrode, not the file, shall rotate when sharpening the elec-
trode.
Changing the single spot electrode
To change the single spot electrode:
1. Make sure that the single spot electrode and the electrode holder are
fitted to the multi-function gun.
2. Grip the electrode with a set of pliers.
3. Turn the pliers and the electrode back and forth to loosen the
electrode from the electrode holder.
NOTE: Do not loosen the electrode by hitting it. This could damage either
the electrode, the electrode holder or the multi-function gun.
4. Remove the used electrode from the holder.
WARNING! The tools or electrodes may be hot. Risk for burning injuries.
