The power transformer is permanently cooled by a fan on the side of the
welding cabinet. The CR530 power transformer is cooled with water. The
fan is turned on and off when the welder is turned on and off with the main
switch. The welding cables are cooled by compressed air blowing through
the cables. The cable cooling system is controlled by electrovalves sending
compressed air from the pneumatic air network. CR510 and CR530 are also
equipped with water cooling of electrodes and yokes.
The welder has an overheat protection system which monitors the welder
when the c-tong is used. The electrodes become hot if the c-tong is used fre-
quently, which may affect the quality of the weld nuggets. (The welding ca-
bles or the transformer can also overheat.)
The overheat protection is in two levels. The diod bridge is monitored by a
thermal sensor and the power transformer is monitored by a thermal breaker.
The sensor and the breaker disables the welder in case of overheating. The
welder remains disabled until the temperature decreases to a safe level. Even
though the welder is disabled in case of overheating, the fan in the welder
cabinet continues to operate. Also, the compressed air continues to cool the
cables and the transformer. When the welder has cooled, which takes about
5-10 minutes, the welder is able to operate again.
IMPORTANT! Do not turn off the welder while cooling is activated!
IMPORTANT! If the thermal breaker has switched off the welder,
please contact Car-O-Liner authorized service personnel.
The welder is monitored by a circuit breaker and a ground fault circuit
breaker.(welders sold in the US are not equipped with a ground fault circuit
breaker.) If the circuit breaker or the ground fault circuit breaker has tripped,
the user can turn on the welder by resetting the tripped breaker.
