4.10.7 Performing strength tests

The aim of spot welding is to restore the vehicle to its former condition. It is
therefore important that the weld nuggets have sufficient quality. The quality
of the weld nuggets are checked with strength tests. When performing these
tests, one ensures that the set weld current and weld time is sufficient.
When performing a strength test, it is always the metal sheet – not the weld
nugget – that shall break. To perform a strength test:
1. Set the desired welding program ( see section 4.2.3 "Setting the weld
programs").
2. Weld two metal sheets that have the same thickness as those to be
welded on the vehicle.
3. Perform a shear test or try to tear the metal sheets apart.
