Glossary
Active Directory (AD) - A centralized directory service system produced by Microsoft that
automates network management of user data, security and resources, and enables
interoperation with other directories. Active Directory is designed especially for distributed
networking environments.
Common Internet File System (CIFS) - a protocol that defines a standard for remote file
access, allowing users with different platforms and computers to share files without installing
special software.
File Shares - Dell SonicWALL's network file browsing feature on the SRA appliance. This uses
the Web browser to browse shared files on the network.
Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) - An Internet protocol that email and other
programs use to retrieve data from a server.
One-time Password - A randomly-generated, single-use password. One-time Password may
be used to refer to a particular instance of a password, or to the feature as a whole.
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) - A protocol for sending email messages between
servers.
Secure Socket Layer Virtual Private Network (SRA) - A remote access tool that utilizes a
Web browser to provide clientless access to private applications.
Virtual Office - The user interface of the SRA appliance.
Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS) - A system that determines the IP address
associated with a network computer.
